Unit for Continuing Education

Target Participants:

Registered nurses with a degree or diploma in general nursing science who supervise nursing students.

The purpose of the course is to:

Develop successful mentoring behaviour resulting in adequate, successful supervision of nursing students in all areas. This includes the clinical simulation laboratory, the classroom and the clinical learning environment/s.

Course Content:

  1. Understanding student needs.
  2. The process of mentoring.
  3. Interpersonal skills and meaning.
  4. Behaviour descriptions.
  5. Student outcomes
  6. Evaluation techniques.
  7. Teaching and learning strategies.
  8. Relationship ethics.
  9. Helpful listening and reacting.

In order to attend the Nursing SLP’s you are required to be registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
